Bindoon Bauxite Shovelling Competition
10 Nov 2009

Bauxite Resources Ltd (BRL) were proud to support the Bindoon Show on 17 October 2009, a blistering hot Saturday that gathered together the local Chittering population to enjoy a small town country show.

The Bindoon Show has been a part of the town’s calendar for fifty-nine years providing a focal point for locals to showcase their horses, poultry, cattle, wool, floriculture, home produce, arts and crafts, as well as the perfect opportunity to hold a Ute Muster, a Bauxite Shovelling Competition and the Mystery Box Invention Competition.

Bauxite Resources Ltd were able to give time and financial backing to the Bindoon Show enabling the Bindoon & Districts Agricultural Society to double the class prize money for 2009.

The inaugural Bindoon Bauxite Shovelling Competition organised by the BRL team saw teams of four people challenged to move approximately one tonne of premium Darling Range bauxite a distance of roughly ten metres using two wheel barrows three shovels and a broom.

Ecstatic winners of the $600 first prise were local young guns ‘Gibbida’, a Moora team, while second prise of $300 went to the wily ‘Wombats’ from Bullsbrook.

A highlight of the Show proved to be the display of inventions created by the Junior Inventors from a mystery box of products. Bauxite Resources were very pleased to be able sponsor the Junior Inventors with their amazing ideas as well as the Ute Muster that brought some extremely well groomed vehicles to the show.

BRL’s information booth manned throughout the day by BRL staff and board members was heavily patronised. Feedback received from the local community showed strong interest in the positive employment opportunities and increased economic activities that have flowed on into the local community.
