Perth based company Bauxite Resources Ltd (BRL) has had a strong interest in Woylie conservation since 2009. In January 2010, BRL provided seed funding of $50,000 to the scientific and conservation community to employ a Woylie disease investigation manager. It is the first time in Australia that funds have been specifically provided to engage a dedicated Disease Investigator with the core role of Woylie disease research. The aim is to arrest the rapid decline of a dwindling species population - the last surviving in Australia here in a few very small pockets in Western Australia. The collapse of this once vibrant species has been likened to a 'science fiction horror' and has puzzled researchers scratching their heads.
We will continue to support the rescue campaign with its strategic partners and the WA community.
