Company Overview

Bauxite Resources was established in May 2006 to participate in the bauxite and alumina industries in Western Australia where four of the seven Australian alumina refineries and four of Australia's bauxite mines are located. The Company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in October 2007.

Darling Range Premium Bauxite
Approximately seven tonnes of Darling Range bauxite when refined using the Bayer process produces two tonnes of alumina, which in turn produces one tonne of aluminium when smelted. The bauxite found throughout the Darling Range is a gibbsite ore, an aluminium hydroxide requiring lower temperatures and lower pressures for alumina refining. These lower energy requirements represent considerably lower energy costs making Darling Range bauxite a premium product.

Darling Range bauxite is also extremely low in reactive silica requiring lower caustic soda use for greater liberation of alumina again reducing refining costs.

These distinctive properties ensure Darling Range alumina refineries are among the lowest cost producers in the world and are responsible for a growing interest in Darling Range bauxite on a global scale.

Darling Range Alumina Industry
The Darling Range in the south-west of Western Australia produces 23% of the world's alumina. This area has mined bauxite and refined alumina since the 1960s and currently exports 12.3 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) providing Western Australia with $3.6 billion in export revenue and 5% of the State's total export income.
